More members of the Guatemalan banana workers union SITRABI have been murdered in recent weeks. According to reports received from SITRABI General secretary, Noé Ramírez, 5 workers have been killed between February 15 and April 29, 2008. These deaths follow on the assassination of SITRABI leader Marco Tulio in September 2007 and SITRABANSUR leader Miguel Ángel Ramírez in March 2008. Union leaders and members in other sectors have also been victims of the increasingly generalized violence.

The IUF is working through the round table established with the Guatemalan government earlier this year to find ways to stop the escalating violence and to win justice for those workers and union leaders who have been its victims.
