With strike action set to escalate on day 4 of a planned nationwide strike, employers returned to the bargaining table late on the evening of May 14 to enter into a new national agreement with the Norwegian Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union HRAF (for background click here). The employers agreed to the 3.5 percent wage increase they had previously rejected.
The agreement brings the increase for the sector into line with the national wage agreements previously negotiated by other unions.
HRAF received strong backing from the national center LO's entire membership, including 500,000 Norwegian crowns in strike support pledged by the chemical workers the morning of the 14th.
