BCTGM organizers and supporters gather in front of the plant

The 125 workers at the Danone yogurt plant in West Jordan, in the US state of Utah have become members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union (BCTGM) following a vote for union representation that concluded on August 28.

BCTGM praised the hard work and determination of the organizing committee in the plant, whose efforts, together with those of the union organizers, helped to secure this victory. The union also thanked the IUF affiliates who assisted by writing letters of solidarity to the workers at Danone in Utah.

Danone is known as Dannon in the United States, where it has 4 dairy manufacturing facilities. The biggest, in Minster, Ohio, was organized by BCTGM in 2007. The factory in Fort Worth, Texas, is organized by the Teamsters, while the factory in Londonderry, New Hampshire, remains unorganized.

The IUF is pleased to welcome the West Jordan workers amongst its worldwide membership at Danone.
