Agreement at Gran Melia, Jakarta - Now Time for Full Implementation of What's Been Agreed!

Strong pressure internationally and at home has resulted in an agreement between the union and management of the Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Jakarta Gran Melia is the Indonesian flagship of the Spanish-based transnational hotel and tourism Sol Melia Group. Management had egregiously violated the collective agreement through targeted dismissals of past and present union activists and officers, the withholding of union dues and service charge revenue owed the workers, and aggressive surveillance of union members, among other anti-union measures (click here for background).

Bowing to a strong international campaign response and the discipline of the union hotel members and their national federation FSPM, corporate management was obliged to become involved in a process of negotiation which has resulted in agreement with the union on the key issues.
